Habitat for Global Learning and Foundation for Eden Prairie Schools to Combine The Habitat for Global Learning (HGL) will become part of the Foundation for Eden Prairie Schools (FEPS) under an agreement reached recently by the two organizations. HGL will continue operations as a "designated fund" of FEPS. Donors to FEPS may designate their contributions to the HGL fund. The current HGL Board will become an Advisory Board for the designated fund and HGL will be represented on the FEPS Board.
In announcing the combination, FEPS President Jeff Parker said that "the combination will strengthen both organizations by providing HGL with the fundraising resources of FEPS and providing FEPS with a broader donor base." Parker also stated that "as the Foundation for Eden Prairie Schools grows, it is likely that other donor designated funds similar to HGL will materialize."
HGL President John Bowlsby echoed Parker's views on the combination saying that "this is a natural melding of two groups, both of whom have the interest of Eden Prairie Schools as their primary focus. This merger will allow us both to become more effective in our missions and more efficient in our administration."
HGL was founded in 2001 as the Habitat for Technology and changed its name and direction in June 2008. Now operating as the Habitat for Global Learning, HGL's mission is to promote and support the Eden Prairie School District in developing a truly unique curriculum that radically advances our students' ability to successfully participate in a global environment through the understanding and knowledge of different languages, cultures, governments, science, and business practices.
